Study Load

Undergraduate Students

Undergraduate students are normally permitted to register for 12 to 22 credit units during each regular semester (Semester A and Semester B), and up to 7 credit units in the Summer Term.

Postgraduate Students

Postgraduate students are normally permitted to register for 6 to 17 credit units during each regular semester (Semester A and Semester B), and up to 7 credit units in the Summer Term.

  • Students who wish to register for fewer or more credit units than the permitted range must seek prior approval from the head of their home academic unit.
  • Justifications and relevant supporting documents are required. Please note that such requests are only approved in very exceptional cases.
  • Applications to reduce or exceed the permitted study load should be submitted via the Online Application function in the Student Information System (SIS) [Academic Application - Application for Adding/Dropping Course].

Note: Students on academic probation may be advised or required to take a reduced study load.

Maximum Credit Units for Degree Completion

  • Students should also be aware that there are maximum credit unit limits for both Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs.
  • Once these limits are reached, students cannot register for additional courses.
If there is any inconsistency or ambiguity between the page contents and the Academic Regulations (AR), rules and guidelines, the AR, rules and guidelines shall prevail.
